How to Install a Glock Magwell: Step-by-Step Guide
Posted by TACBRO on
Installing a flared magwell is one of the easiest upgrades you can do to a Glock. No gunsmith, no special tools, and it takes just a few minutes. Here's how.
Safety First — Non-Negotiable
- Unload the firearm. Remove the magazine, lock the slide back, visually and physically check the chamber is empty.
- No ammunition in your workspace. Move all ammo to another room before you start.
- Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction throughout.
What You'll Need
- Your Glock (unloaded, verified clear)
- The magwell
- The hex (Allen) key included in the package — no other tools needed
Installation Steps
Step 1 — Remove the magazine and confirm the gun is clear. Do the safety check above. Every time, no exceptions.
Step 2 — Slide the magwell onto the base of the grip. Start from the bottom of the grip frame and slide it upward, keeping it aligned with the grip. It should move smoothly into position.
Step 3 — Secure it. Tighten the hex screw with the included hex key until snug. Don't over-torque it — snug is enough; the solid one-piece body keeps everything locked up with no wobble.
Step 4 — Function check. Insert an empty magazine — it should seat fully with a positive click. Press the magazine release — the magazine should drop free without hanging up on the funnel. Repeat a few times.
Step 5 — Confirm fit. The magwell should sit flush against the grip with no wobble. If you use a Gen 4 interchangeable backstrap, check that everything still sits flush (minor fitting may be needed — see our fitment guide).
Troubleshooting
- Magwell feels too tight going on: A snug fit is normal and desirable — it means no wobble once installed. Work it on slowly and evenly rather than forcing one side.
- Magazine won't seat fully: Remove the magwell and check for debris or a misaligned fit, then reinstall. Note: 10-round limited magazines are not compatible with flared magwells at all.
- Magazine doesn't drop free: Check that the funnel isn't contacting the magazine body. Re-seat the magwell and re-test.
That's it — you're done. Your reloads just got faster.
